The Split Grip Drill

This drill is designed to help with release problems causing the ball to not fly out of the Slinger properly. Grip the Slinger with your hands spaced 4-5 inches apart. The left hand should hold as lightly as possible. Take your Slinger address position with your split grip, then swing halfway back until the club is parallel to the ground. Get the toe of the club pointing at the sky. Make a smooth, easy swing down and through until the club is parallel to the ground on the other side. Throughout the downswing, think about the toe pointing skyward at the finish. This mental image encourages rotating the left arm. Repeat this drill until you are sure you have learned the feel of a correct releasing action. As you do the drill notice how the clubface comes from inside the target line on the backswing, to square at impact, back inside in the follow-through.
